Ever since SCIFI discovered Ron Moore's plans to bury their signature show after its fourth season, the network has been clamoring to try and squeeze every last drop out of it, so I'm not completely surprised to hear that they've green lit a 2 hour pilot for Caprica, a prequel show that's been on and off the table for a couple of years now.

Set 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica follows two rival families--the Greystones and the Adamas --as they grow, compete and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies. Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe.

Said Moore of the network's decision; "I'm thrilled with the chance to expand on the Galactica world and get deeper into the origins of the story we've been telling. It's also great to have a chance at doing a completely different kind of science fiction series, one that's even more character-oriented and doesn't rely on pyrotechnics to carry the story."

The final fourth season of the current Battlestar Galactica is set to premiere on SCIFI on April 4th, 2008 so set your DVRs accordingly.
