quietearth [Celluloid 02.03.08] post apocalyptic zombies movie news

Back in December shocktillyoudrop reported that Stephen Susco (The Grudge) was in the beginning stages of adapting David Wellington's serialized zombie novel Monster Island. "Island" portrays a post-zombie apocalypse New York City . A plague has swept through the Big Apple turning all residents into zombies. Only two of the undead on the island have intelligence and harness psychic abilities. They become leaders in a zombie fray that ensues when a team of soldiers comprised of girls is sent to NYC from Africa with a United Nations weapons inspector. Started as a blog it ended up being 3 books and you know how much we love this kind of stuff around here. I just checked around and can find no news since, but Susco has alot on his plate including the remake of the cult hit Deathdream called Zero Dark Thirty, so let's hope we get word of what's going down sometime soon.

Susco said: "The novel lays the foundation for a zombie film the likes of which no one has ever made or seen - a couple dozen people against forty million zombies on Manhattan Island," he says. "And this isn't a group of people trapped in a room, trying to hold back the tide - this is a head-on collision, a battle that nearly destroys the entire city. My producing partner and I have teamed up with a visual FX company to realize this book as it should be realized — as an epic, 300-esque horror action film that will blow people out of their chairs."

i'd love to see a film of the entire trilogy including monster nation and monster planet. Has a much more international flavor as opposed to the small scope cookie cutter cast you usually see. If you liked his zombie books check out 13 bullets and 99 coffins, great take on vampires.
