Marina Antunes [Celluloid 06.03.21] scifi horror

If you scratched your head at the idea of Neill Blomkamp directing what looked like a straight-up horror movie, you were not alone. As it turns out we had nothing to worry about because Blomkamp's next project is anything but typical.

Demonic stars Canadian actor Carly Pope as woman dealing with some difficulties with her mother and using what appears to be some sort of VR technology to overcome that rift except in doing so, the lines between the VR world and the real-world begin to blend together.

The trailer is still a bit vague on the details but it does provide a bit more to go on than the images that were previously released.

In addition to Pope, the film also stars Nathalie Boltt, Chris William Martin, Michael J Rogers, and Andrea Agur.

While it's still not fully clear what exactly is going on here, I'm excited to see that Blomkamp is playing with a mix of sci-fi and demonic horror, two things that don't usually mix.

Demonic will be available in theatres and VOD on August 20.
