The anticipation for Denis Villeneuve's Dune has been palpable since it was first announced that the director would be taking on yet another iconic science-fiction property and now, after casting announcements, leaked images, real images and endless speculation later, we have our first real look at Villeneuve's vision of Frank Herbert's epic tale.

Timothee Chalamet stars as Paul Atreides, the son of a once prosperous and respected Duke whose family is sent to Arrakis (AKA Dune), a rich but troubled planet that also happens to be the galaxy's only source of the spice which is essential for galactic travel.

Drama ensues: the Atreides clan steps into war with their enemies the Harkonnen, Paul's mother is in trouble for not following the rules of her order, the Fremen - Dune's native inhabitants - are determined to rid themselves of appointed sovereigns, and Paul may or may not be the Prophet.

Along with Chalamet, Dune also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, David Dastmalchian, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, and Javier Bardem.

As a long-time fan of "Dune," any new adaptations of the source material was going to get my attention but adding Villeneuve to the mix, a director who has proven repeatedly that he can handle complex storytelling to deliver beautiful, engaging films, was exciting.

Having seen this trailer, I'm definitely excited to see the Villeneuve's full vision though I expect that the movie is not coming this December as was originally planned.

Well, it looks very generic. Perhaps it's just the wait the trailer is presented, but I don't get a "Dune" feeling from this at all. Could be any one of a dozen generic space-opera films from the past years.

Time will tell I suppose.

@Digger, yeah I was underwhelmed as well when I saw the trailer in the cinema... I really like all Dennis Villeneuve films I saw so far though so still high hopes here.
