Marina Antunes [Celluloid 08.27.19] horror

Writer/director Scott Cooper has made a name for himself with dark, gritty dramas like Out of the Furnace, Hostiles and even Black Mass which didn't fully work but still played into the thriller sensibility but for his latest, the director is jumping directly into the horror genre with Antlers.

Based on a short story from writer and producer Nick Antosca ("Channel Zero"), the movie stars Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons as a brother and sister who discover that a young boy is "harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences."

Essentially, this looks a little like a creature feature with overtones of a family drama.

Generally speaking, this type of drama with a supernatural creature is something that's been done and is, for me at least, not particularly interesting but the combination of cast and director were enough to peak my interest and the haunting trailer sealed the deal.

If all goes well, Antlers will focus more on the mystery and the drama than it does on the creature itself.

Antlers is slated for release next year.

Recommended Release: Out of the Furnace
