Marina Antunes [Celluloid 09.07.17] Norway scifi thriller drama

After a somewhat tepid English language debut with Louder than Bombs, Norwegian writer/director Joachim Trier has returned to Europe for his latest, a sci-fi thriller titled Thelma.

The movie, which is scheduled to make it's North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival later this month, stars up-and-coming Norwegian actress Eili Harboe as the titular Thelma, a young woman who is experiencing love for the first time but her romantic inclinations begin as she also starts to experience what appears to be supernatural phenomena.

Trier is a favourite around these parts, we're particularly fond of Oslo, August 31st, so it's great to see the director returning to his European roots.

The first trailer for Thelma suggests Trier is back on track with a powerful emotional drama, this one with supernatural elements and some super sleek visual effects.

Thelma will have a limited North American release on November 10 following a number of festival screenings.

Recommended Release: Oslo, August 31st
