Love him or hate him, one can't deny the fact that Jason Blum has developed a winning formula for his movies and, arguably, beat Roger Corman at his own game: make lots of little movies for cheap and mathematically, one or two of them are bound to make up for any lost revenue from the rest. It's a formula that has made Blum rich and more importantly, powerful in the world of movie making. Now Blum is looking to expand into TV - in a big way.

It was announced today that Blumhouse has launched an independent TV studio with backing from UK's ITV Studios. The backing from ITV apparently gives Blumhouse the muscle to be an independent force in TV production and they've already set their sights on their first project.

Blumhouse TV will produce a TV series for USA and Syfy based in The Purge universe. In addition, they're also working on the previously announced Showtime series "Secure and Hold: The Last Days of Roger Ailes" which is led by Oscar-winning director Tom McCarthy.

Considering Blumhouse's track record of producing genre fare, I expect The Purge series is only the first of many more genre projects to come.

In the meantime, Blumhouse continues to kick box office ass. Get Out, the company's latest release, has proven to be a big winner with both critics and audiences.
