Marina Antunes [Celluloid 01.12.17] France horror

We've been hearing raves about Julia Ducournau's RAW since the film first made its debut at Cannes, wowing nearly everyone who saw it.

An uncommon coming of age tale, the movie stars Garance Marillier as Justine, a brilliant young woman who is following in her family's footsteps: being a vegetarian veterinarian. Struggling to fit it, Justine experiences a hazing ritual which awakens within her a taste for raw meat; and we're not just talking animal flesh.

Touted as a great new vision of horror, RAW certainly looks like a nightmare of a movie. Whereas the regular trailer suggests a college story with an edge horror, the red band trailer feels like a completely different movie, one that bathes and languishes in the horrific. It looks like seriously creepy stuff.

RAW opens in select theaters on March 10 before expanding worldwide in the spring.
