Marina Antunes [Cathode Ray Mission 04.15.16] scifi action drama



Over the last few years SundanceTV has been airing some really great shows. Of late they've brought the French series "The Returned" to US audience, have given us both "Rectify" and the excellent "Top of the Lake" and they're about to premiere a great looking miniseries from down under titled "Cleverman."


The very basic hook of the show, which is an Australia, New Zealand and US co-production, is "aboriginal superheroes." The six episode miniseries which borrows heavily from Australian Aboriginal culture is described as:


In the very near future, creatures from ancient mythology must live among humans and battle for survival in a world that wants to silence, exploit and destroy them. Known as Hairypeople for the matted hair covering their bodies, they have extraordinary strength, speed and longevity but are cast as social misfits and seek refuge in The Zone: a fragile community that finds strength in the brotherhood between Hairy and human. Increasingly, Hairypeople must live amongst humans and battle for survival in a world that wants to silence, exploit and destroy them.


In addition to fresh faces Rob Collilns and Hunter Page-Lochard, the show also stars Frances O'Connor and Ian Glen (recently of "Game of Thrones" fame).


"Cleverman" is scheduled to premiere on SundaceTV on June 1 and in Australia on ABC and ABC iview on June 2.
