Christopher Webster [Celluloid 10.01.15] horror thriller

The Forest in an intriguing supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest of Japan - often referred to as the "Suicide Forest" as it is a place where people seem to congregate to kill themselves. According to wikipedia: "statistics vary, but what is documented is that during the period leading up to 1988, about 100 suicides occurred there every year."

Gus Van Sant’s upcoming Sea of Trees, written by Buried's Chris Sparling and starring Matthew McConaughey and Ken Watanabe also uses the location as a primary story point.

A young American woman, Sara (played by Game of Thons' Natalie Dormer), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate.

The Forest is directed by Jason Zada and written by a number of writers, one of which is David S. Goyer who is attributed with screnplay credit.

The Forest' hits Theaters January 8, 2016.
