Yes, we're a little behind on this but mostly because my love for Metallica isn't what it used to be and the idea of a concert film from the band did nothing to appeal to me. That said, I checked out the trailer for Metallica: Through the Never and was surprised to find... an actual movie?
The hybrid concert/thriller comes via director Nimrod Antal and mixes concert footage from the band which was shot in August of 2012 with a story of a roadie named Trip (Dane DeHaan) who is sent on an urgent mission to find a tour truck that has run out of gas and which is carrying an important item the band needs for the show. The errand is made more difficult to complete when Trip stumbles on what appears to be a riot.
It's an interesting concept and I must admit, I'm curious to see how Antal mixes the two halves of this movie. For what it's worth, the riot footage looks badass.
Metallica: Through the Never opens October 4.
