Christopher Webster [Celluloid 12.06.12] scifi action adventure

With his Star Trek reboot, J.J. Abrams proved the moldy old science fiction franchise could still live beyond daytime re-run TV. It was high on adventure and charm with an up-and-coming cast of heartthrobs. Now, with "Into Darkness," Abrams appears to be adding an apocalyptic element of darkness rarely seen in the stoic series and this bodes well with me. It feels more like Star Wars than Star Trek which is really what the series has needed all along.

Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbtach is on board as the villain in this installment and these teaser trailers make use of his obvious awesomeness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated everything the fleet stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a "one man weapon of mass destruction.

\This time out the screenplay was co-written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.
