anglebender [Celluloid 08.31.09] post apocalyptic news scifi video game

This game looks to be extremely fun especially with multiple players. Set on the inhospitable colony world of Pandora (not to be confused with the alien world from Avatar), “Borderlands” lets the player explore an ultraviolent, open-world with a non-linear storyline.

Not to be confused with the movie of similar name, “Borderlands” was set to be released by 2K Games a while ago but someone said, “Hey, lets make everything look like the concept art”. They used more than just a cartoon cell shader on the graphics, they remade all the art assets and built a new rendering engine around them.

“Borderlands” is being sold as the hypothetical offspring of a 1st person shooter and a role playing game. Weapons the player finds are randomly generated from a huge database of gun parts. Every time you play it will be a different experience: sometimes you'll find a shotgun, other times it's an assault rifle, but mostly you'll get a Frankengun mix of the two. The multiplayer and online options sound promising: 4 player co-operative on-the-fly drop-in/drop-out. Was that enough hyphens for you? There aren't a whole lot of specifics about the vehicles the player will find other than there's over 10,000 parts to customize with. Vehicular desert combat with your buddies and a bag of pretzels- Sounds like a blast!

Borderlands will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC n October so expect a full review here, providing I don't get too sucked up in playing it.

Mass Effect was much more of an RPG than a shooter.

What is the song they used? I like that tune!

Looks good, but the gameplay seems stilted in the trailer, and the wacky mutant guns all seem to have a similar effect.

The song is "No Heaven" by Champion
