quietearth [Celluloid 05.27.07] post apocalyptic movie review
Year: 1982
Director: Charles Band
Writers: Alan J. Adler, Frank Levering, Michael Shoob
Cataclysm type: Nuclear War
IMDB entry: IMDB

Post apocalyptic concentration: 6 out of 10
"Mad Max" level: 0 out of 10
Review by: quietearth
Rating: 7 out of 10
Key Characters:
Dr. Paul Dean (Robert Glaudini)
Patricia Welles (Demi Moore)
Ricus (Luca Bercovici)
Wolf the Merchant (James Davidson)

Overview:
Dr. Paul Dean has created a deadly parasite, which after government agents storm his lab, accidentally gets inside of him. He flees to the desert to a small, almost unpopulated town, where he hopes to find a cure before the thing kills him. Right behind is the "Merchant", who wants the Dr. and his creation.

The Story:
The Dr. is on the run, and has to keep shooting up the spot on his stomach where the parasite got in, or it will grow very large and kill him. All this while we have the Merchant chasing him, who doesn't particularly care about human life, even though there's not much left of it. He works for some corporation called Xyrex and there is mention of work camps, but not much else. The Dr. is basically trying to find a cure before time runs out.

The Rating:
I really liked this movie, even though it was made in 1982, it had a really good 70's "feel" to it, which few movies have. The setting and the storyline were very believable, and even though it seemed somewhat short and I would have liked to see a Parasite 2, I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10.

I saw this movie at the theatre back when it first came out, and back then it was released in 3-D!!! It was pretty cool to watch the mosters jump out at you from the screen. I didn't see it again for fifteen years. I lacked something on the small-screen, but it was still a lot of cheap fun. A movie from a more innocent time when these things were appearing and were actually getting big screen showing. Watch it with that in mind.
